Welcome, and thanks for joining us for another episode of holding down the fort, a podcast show where we put military spouses and children's needs front and center so that they can make informed decisions together as a family, because let's face it, we know who's really holding down the fort. I'm Jenny, most a veteran spouse and Goldstar daughter, and your host for today's show. Let's get started.

you. Our show began in summer:

Hi, everyone, my name is Jen Amos and I'm the host of holding down the fort podcast show. I'm also a gold star daughter and veteran spouse. I'm married to Scott Tucker, who's right here with me.

Scott R. Tucker 3:44

Hi, everybody. My name is Scott, I am a West Point graduate and turned serial entrepreneur so excited to be on the on the show with you, Jim.

Jen Amos 3:54

Yes, he's also a veteran hence why I call myself a veteran spouse because we met after his service. And we want to welcome you to the first episode of holding down the fort. And this episode is really to just go over what the show is about the purpose of it, what we'll cover and, you know, get get have you guys get acquainted with us. So the purpose of the show is to engage with military spouses and military families about modern financial education, resources and opportunities so that you can make informed short term and long term decisions for your family. Because let's face it, we know who's really holding down the fort. We also want to make this a platform for military families to have their stories and struggles be heard. And so I want to have Scott here talk a little bit about why we believe that this is so important to put military families and military spouses front and center.

Scott R. Tucker 4:50

Well Jen, it really goes back to a couple years ago when we first met Stephanie Brown from the Rosie network and in she was telling us about her mission. And that it really comes down to the fact that there's major major underemployment issues when it comes to military spouses and, and as we learn more and more about that issue, we discovered, it's, it's more than just under employment, there's just a complete lack of information. And, and when we're just left in the dark, and that it's not just the spouse, it's the family. And so therefore, the service member, is also affected. And it's, it just, it just doesn't make any sense. Because there's tremendous resources out there, there's tons of skills and opportunity. And a lot of it's just been wasted. Based on this is how we've always done it approach. And so we're in a new day and age, there's new tools, technology, ways of, of working with money, getting jobs, understanding benefits, you know, whatever it might be, it's just, we don't need to be in the dark anymore. We can we can use things like podcasts, YouTube, the internet, LinkedIn, whatever it is, to spread this information, find the people it's meant for, and realize that not everybody just has to have fallen under the dependent status, and therefore we're all just lumped into the same, same situation.

Jen Amos 6:14

Yes. And so throughout the show, we will be covering a couple of things that we'll be doing is bringing on industry experts to answer any burning questions you have about military benefits transition, and so much more. Essentially, whatever questions you have as a military spouse, and as a military family, that you feel like you're not getting, or maybe you're in a position where you feel like you're just constantly getting secondhand information from the service member, we want to be able to provide that to you firsthand. And so a part of that as well is addressing relevant current events, such as the Blended Retirement System. And also just having, having your stories come front and center, as I mentioned earlier on.

Scott R. Tucker 7:02

Great, well, I'm really excited to be on the show here with you, my lovely wife, Jen. And and with all of you, we think the time has come to it needs to stop with that, where we're just going through the motions, and not really understanding how to maximize what it means to serve in the United States of America in in the modern age. So look forward to sharing that information and, and developing a relationship with you a dialog like come back, ask us your questions. And let us know what we should be talking about, or the types of people we should be having on the show. So we look forward to get started with you. And see we're talking about in the next episode.

Jen Amos 7:48

Yes, so we're really excited. And we just want to thank you in advance for joining us on this new show and journey and we hope that we can figure this out together and hopefully live a life of intention while we are in service and after service. So stay tuned and we'll see you on the next show

"Jen has a beautiful way of capturing the essence of her guests. She listens with an open mind and heart to help expand the words spoken- bringing life, connection, and deeper understanding. The military life is never “easy” we merely learn how to adapt the best we know how to. It’s through continuing to build the community up that we will see a decrease in the mental hardships we sometimes face. Thank you for your work to bridge the gaps, build awareness, and give a voice to so many of us. With a variety of guests, there is truly an episode meant for you to hear. I look forward to continuing to support you Jen!" - Candice E. Van Dertholen, Ep. 190

As the co-owner of US VetWealth (i.e. Scott R. Tucker’s “better half”), I assist in creating educational content for military retirees seeking alternative options to the Survivor Benefit Plan and privatized financial strategies for your military retirement.

From growing up in a military family to becoming a Gold Star family member at 10 years old, I have first-hand experience with how a sudden transition to civilian life can impact a family emotionally and financially. 20+ years removed from military life, I started the podcast show Holding Down the Fort by US VetWealth in the summer of 2019 to get a pulse on the community today. I’ve come to find that our families still face similar issues that I faced in my childhood. It’s become a sense of responsibility to do my part in validating the stories and struggles of career military families. By the fall of 2020, I had been awarded Media Professional of the Year by The Rosie Networks' National Veteran and Military Spouse Entrepreneur Awards. Since then, the show has received five more award nominations and has been recognized by multiple media outlets, including the Disney Institute’s Veterans Insititute.

While the show is off-season, I focus most of my time building out US VetWealth’s Military Retirement Blueprint — the only resource for military retirees to learn about SBP alternatives and privatized financial strategies. Contrary to popular belief, retiring military officers and senior NCOs are, what we consider, high-income earners. Our FREE resource provides guides, courses, live training, consulting, and an ever-growing list of content for you to learn about your untapped potential and opportunities for post-military life.
